Liverpool have made an excellent start to the season under manager Jurgen Klopp, in what is his first full campaign in English football.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss, who replaced the sacked Brendan Rodgers in October last year, has led his side to six wins from their opening nine matches, including impressive victories over Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Reds have only lost to Burnley so far this season and, although they couldn’t find a way past Tottenham and Manchester United, they have shown in the first few months that they could seriously challenge for the title.

However, they did overcome Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs in the League Cup in midweek, in turn setting up a meeting with Leeds in the last eight, as they look to reach a third Cup final under Klopp, but win their first trophy.

Consequently, Klopp may look to improve his squad ready for the second half of the season, and may seek reinforcements in his midfield department when the transfer window reopens.

Here are THREE midfielders he should try to sign in January…

Ruben Neves

Liverpool have been monitoring the progress of Porto midfielder Ruben Neves at times this season, and have sent scouts to watch him in action in the Portuguese top-flight.

The 19-year-old is already a Portuguese international, having played for his country twice in 2015, and is highly-rated in his home country.

The young defensive midfielder broke into the first team back in 2014, when he was just 17, and has since played 51 times in the league for Porto, netting twice.

Although he hasn’t featured as readily in this campaign, Liverpool are thought to be impressed with the youngster, whose positional awareness and vision are particular strengths.

With Liverpool still shipping a few too many goals, Klopp may want to shore up the middle of the park, and Neves could be able to do just that.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

Geoffrey Kondogbia is not having it all his own way at Inter Milan this season.

The 23-year-old midfielder has started just four of their ten Serie A games so far this season, and didn’t feature at all in their 2-1 win over Torino on Wednesday night.

The French international has been openly criticised by manager Frank de Boer for his performances in this campaign, and quotes from his agent in recent weeks suggests that teams are interested in Kondogbia if things don’t improve at the San Siro.

Liverpool are one of those teams reportedly showing an interest in the midfielder, who could certainly come in and do a job in Klopp’s side.

Mahmoud Dahoud

It’s not the first time we have mentioned Mahmoud Dahoud being linked to Liverpool, and it’s likely not to be the last.

The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has been tipped to be one of the stars of the Germany midfield in years to come, having broken through into the Monchengladbach first team last season.

He appeared 32 times to help the club qualify for the Champions League, where this season he has pitted his wits against Manchester City and Barcelona in the European competition.

Consequently, Pep Guardiola is interested in the 20-year-old as well, which is why Klopp must try and bring him in during the January window, or risk losing him to a Premier League rival.

With Juventus also circling, it is imperative that Liverpool act fast or risk missing out on a potentially world-class midfielder.
