3 players Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could sign after Liverpool defeat

Arsenal fell to their first defeat of the season on Monday night as they went down 3-1 to champions Liverpool at Anfield.

Despite the loss, fans will be optimistic that progress is being made under Mikel Arteta following FA Cup and Community Shield victories.

In the transfer market, the Spaniard has brought in Gabriel and Willian, turned Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari’s loans into permanent deals, plus re-signed Dani Ceballos on another season-long loan.

Arsenal fell to defeat at Anfield.

But with the window still open for another week to run closing until, there’s plenty of speculation that the Gunners will bring in more new faces.

Lyon captain Houssem Aouar seems to be the club’s top target with The Times reporting the North London side have had a bid rejected, but here’s three other players who have been linked with a switch to the Emirates in recent days…

Jorginho

In a late twist, the Mirror report that Arsenal could sign midfielder Jorginho from London rivals Chelsea. It’s claimed that the Blues will make a bid to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice and, if they succeed, would allow the Italy international to move on. Mikel Arteta is said to be a big fan of the 28-year-old and is considering a swoop after being told by Atletico Madrid that Thomas Partey is not for sale.

Alex Luna

Reports in the Mirror claim that Arsenal are one of many clubs keeping an eye on Argentine wonderkid Alex Luna. The 16-year-old scored 16 goals in 2020 and is expected to be promoted to Atletico Rafaela’s first-team next season. Luna’s form has reportedly caught the attention of a number of European clubs, including the Gunners. However, the teenage forward is also thought to be being monitored by Barcelona, PSG, Roma, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Samuel Umtiti

France Football report that Arsenal are in a battle to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti. It’s claimed that the French World Cup winner is not wanted at the Camp Nou after a string of knee injuries. However, despite his injury woes, it’s thought that the 26-year-old is in demand. The Gunners are allegedly interested in the ex-Lyon ace but it’s also said that Manchester United and three other clubs also have a keen eye on the centre-back.
