3 players Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could sign after West Ham United victory

Arsenal have got off to the perfect start in the Premier League with back-to-back London derby victories against Fulham and West Ham.

The Gunners followed up their 3-0 win at Craven Cottage by grinding out a 2-1 victory over the Hammers thanks to a late Eddie Nketiah goal.

Progress under Mikel Arteta, who has won the FA Cup and Community Shield in his first eight months in charge, has got fans excited as to what’s to come this season.

As well as adding Gabriel and Willian, plus Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari on permanent deals, the Spanish manager has crucially tied down star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new deal.

Willian arrived at Arsenal on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea.

But with the transfer window not closing until October 5, there could yet still be some new additions to the squad.

Here’s three players who have been linked with a switch to Arsenal in recent days…

Runar Alex Runarsson

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Dijon goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson. Following the sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa, the Gunners are aiming to bolster their goalkeeping ranks. It’s claimed that the 25-year-old will cost around £1.6million and has been in London to have his medical. A senior international for Iceland, Runarsson made 36 appearances in Ligue 1 since a transfer from FC Nordsjælland in June 2018.

Houssem Aouar

According to Italian sports journalist Nicolo Schira, who reported on Twitter, Arsenal’s priority is to sign Lyon captain Houssem Aouar. It’s claimed personal terms – for a contract to run until 2025 – were agreed between the Gunners and the 22-year-old a fortnight ago. However, despite Lyon’s willingness to let their midfielder leave for a new challenge, Arsenal are yet to agree a fee with the French club. Aouar was born and raised in Lyon and has made 139 first-team appearances since making his debut as an 18-year-old.

David Raya

Reports from ESPN claim that Arsenal are still keen on signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. The Gunners have already had a £10million bid rejected by the Bees for the former Blackburn Rovers stopper. However, the North London side are not giving up hope on bringing the 25-year-old to North London after selling Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa. As it stands, Mikel Arteta has just former third-choice Matt Macey as back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Raya was an ever-present last term as Brentford reached the Championship play-off final before losing to Fulham.
