3 players Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could sign after Community Shield defeat

Liverpool kicked off their 2020/21 campaign with a defeat to Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield.

Although disappointed by the final result, Jurgen Klopp would’ve been pleased to get more minutes into his first-team players with the Premier League set to begin on September 5th.

After winning their first top-flight title in 30 years, the Reds will be aiming to keep hold of their crown in what is shaping up to be an exciting season.

Klopp has only brought in one new face so far this summer with the signing of Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos.

But, following their Community Shield defeat, could the Anfield club go back into the transfer market?  Here’s three players who have been linked with Liverpool in recent days…

Ismaila Sarr

The Sun report that the Reds are looking to add to their attack with the signing of Watford star Ismaila Sarr. The 22-year-old registered five goals four assists for the relegated Hornets last term. Two of those strikes came in the surpising 3-0 win over Liverpool in March. It’s claimed that Klopp was so impressed with the Senegal international’s performance in that game that he is prepared to meet the forward’s £40million asking price.

Thiago Alcantara

South American publication Ole report that Liverpool are continuing their pursuit of Bayer Munich midfielder Thiago. It’s claimed that the Spain international has already agreed to leave the Champions League winners to join the Anfield club. However, a fee still needs to be agreed for the 29-year-old, who has one-year left on his deal at the Allianz Arena. Thiago joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013 and has helped them win the Bundesliga title every season he’s been at the club.

Marcelo Pitaluga

Reports in the Liverpool Echo suggest that the Reds are set to complete the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga. The 17-year-old currently plays for Fluminense but is said to be one of the best young stoppers around. It’s claimed that he has been chased by a number of sides in Europe but that the Premier League champions have made an offer which is likely to be accepted.
