3 players Liverpool could sign after completing Thiago Alcantara transfer

Liverpool achieved what they set out to do in the 2019/20 season by winning their first Premier League trophy and first top-flight league title since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds stormed to the championship, taking 99 points from their 38 matches in a campaign disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The German boss will be aiming to defend that crown this term and has so far bolstered his squad with the addition of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.

Thiago spent seven years at Bayern Munich.

Thiago, who won the Champions League with the Bundesliga side last term, arrived on Friday for a reported initial fee of just £20million.

With increased competition expected from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and big-spenders Chelsea this season, the Anfield outfit could still loom to bolster their ranks further before the window shuts.

But who could potentially sign for the Premier League champions? Here’s three players who have been linked with the Reds in recent days…

Diogo Jota

Before the inked had barely dried on Thiago’s four-year deal, reports suggested that Liverpool were set to follow that up the eye-catching deal for the midfielder with the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers. On Saturday morning, BBC Sport reported that the Reds have actually agreed a £41million deal for the 23-year-old which could rise to £45million with add-ons. The Portugal international has impressed since moving to Molineux from Atletico Madrid – initially on loan – in 2017, scoring 44 goals in 131 appearances. Jota will provide competition to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in Liverpool’s breathtaking attacking ranks.

Ozan Kabak

AIPS journalist, Chris Williams, has reported on Twitter that Liverpool have approached Schalke over the potential signing of defender Ozan Kabak. The 20-year-old has become a regular in the Bundesliga – firstly for Stuttgart before signing for Schalke in the summer of 2019 – catching the eye of a number of clubs. It’s claimed that the German club are not keen to sell the Turkey international now the season has started but that an offer in the region of £22.9million could make them reconsider. Klopp seems to be eyeing the centre-back to cover the space in the squad left following Dejan Lovren’s move to Zenit St Petersburg in July.

Ismaila Sarr

The Daily Mail recently continued with the story that Liverpool are still keen on signing Watford star Ismaila Sarr. Despite the Hornets’ relegation last term, the 22-year-old impressed with five Premier League goals, including a brace against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. This attracted to the German boss to the Senegal international who only arrived at Vicarage Road from Rennes last summer. However, it’s not yet known whether the champions will make an official move as it’s claimed that Watford want in the region of £36million for their forward.
