After beating Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening match on Monday, many expected Man City to continue with another win at home against Leicester City.
But despite former Foxes star Riyad Mahrez firing them into an early lead, the Citizens fell to a surprising 5-2 defeat at the Etihad.
The result, which was the first time in 686 games as a manager that Pep Guardiola has seen his side concede five goals, has brought up many questions as to whether City have what it takes to regain the Premier League title from Liverpool.
Although the Spaniard has a long injury list at this time, the defeat could force City into the market before the window closes on October 5th.
But which players could potentially move to the Sky Blues before the deadline?
Here’s three players who have been linked with a move to Man City in recent days…
Ruben Dias
After much speculation, BBC Sport claim that City will wrap up the signing of Benfica defender Ruben Dias. It’s reported that the Citizens will pay around £65million to land the 23-year-old, bringing an end to their search for a centre-back. The Portugal international came through the youth ranks at Benfica and has made 133 senior appearances. Additionally, Nicolas Otamendi go the other direction, joining Benfica for around £13.7million.
Jules Kounde
Another centre-back City seem to be keen on is Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, according to Sky Sports. It’s claimed that the club are in talks with the La Liga outfit as they look to bolster a defence which has been prone to leaking goals in recent times. Kounde is only 21 but impressed as he helped Sevilla win the Europa League in his first season in Spain after a switch from Bordeaux in 2019.
Arkadiusz Milik
City are also reportedly interested in adding to their attacking ranks having held talks with Napoli over a deal for Arkadiusz Milik. The Poland international, 26, has netted 48 goals in 122 matches for the Italian side but, according to Rai Sports reporter, Ciro Venerato, could be set for a move. Venerato told Radio Kiss Kiss, as cited by Metro: “An intermediary told me that there’s informal talks with Leipzig, Manchester City, Manchester United, Fulham and Tottenham.”
