3 players Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could sign after Crystal Palace defeat

After securing Champions League football with a third-placed finish last term, Manchester United started the 2020/21 season in disappointing fashion with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils ended last term on a 14-match unbeaten league run but were well off the pace against the Eagles who looked sharper having kicked off their campaign the previous week.

The loss will further put pressure on the Old Trafford board as, despite vast speculation, Donny van de Beek, who scored on his debut after coming on as a substitute, has been the only addition to the first-team so far.

Van de Beek celebrates his debut goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still be hoping to bring more fresh faces in, especially with top-four rivals Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all bolstering their squads.

So with the transfer window open until October 5th, which players could potentially be arriving at Old Trafford in the coming weeks?

Here’s three players who have been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent days…

Ismaila Sarr

According to reports in the Independent, Manchester United have turned their attentions to signing Watford forward Ismaila Sarr. The 22-year-old scored five Premier League goals last term but couldn’t save the Hornets from relegation. However, it’s claimed that the Senegal international could make a quick return to the top-flight as the Red Devils consider a swoop for the forward, who’s also a reported Liverpool target. It’s thought that United have identified Sarr as a transfer target due to the fact they are struggling to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Sami Khedira

Reports in The Sun suggest that United could make a move to land the experienced Sami Khedira. It’s claimed that the 33-year-old is set to have his contract terminated at Juventus meaning he will be available on a free transfer. The Red Devils have been linked with the German World Cup winner in the past so now could be the time to bring him to Old Trafford. However, fans will be wary of Khedira’s injury problems as the midfielder played just 18 times for Juve last term due to a knee problem and torn abductor. Prior to moving to Italy in 2015, the playmaker spent five years at Real Madrid.

Alex Telles

The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United hold an interest in signing left-back Alex Telles from FC Porto. It’s claimed that the Red Devils have held talks with the Portuguese champions over a potential deal for the defender, who’s valued at £17million. United were thought to be interested in Sergio Reguilon. However, with the Real Madrid man now set to move to Tottenham, Solskjaer now has his eye on Porto’s 27-year-old. The Brazilian registered 13 goals and 12 assists in all competitions last term and would provide competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.
