3 players who could follow Oscar out of Chelsea in January

Chelsea made in ten successive Premier League victories courtesy of a 1-0 win over bottom side Sunderland on Wednesday.

Antonio Conte’s side found it tough against the league’s basement club, yet Cesc Fabregas’ fine strike from the edge of the box five minutes before half time proved to be the winner.

Their tenth win in a row extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points, which is an incredible effort given that, on September 24, Conte’s men were eight points behind Manchester City, and sitting eighth in the table.

Since then tough, victories over Manchester United, Tottenham, and Manchester City have outlined the Blues’ title credentials, and they’ll go into Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace full of confidence in their bid to go nine points clear at the top.

However, their recent upturn in form hasn’t been great for everyone at Stamford Bridge, with several first team players under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink last season not getting a look in under the new manager.

And, with the January transfer window fast approaching, a number of these players may look to move on in the New Year, and one of those could be playmaker Oscar, who looks set to move to China in the New Year.

He may not be the only one though, as here are THREE Chelsea players who could follow the Brazilian international out of Stamford Bridge in January…

Branislav Ivanovic

Branislav Ivanovic was one of the biggest culprits for Chelsea’s defensive woes at the start of the season, and has since been on the periphery of the first team.

The Serbian international performed poorly in the first month of the season, which prompted Conte to implement a back three at Chelsea, which has been an unbelievable success since.

However, what it has done is limited Ivanovic’s opportunities in the first team, who has been restricted to just substitute appearances since their 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on September 24.

Consequently, with his contract up at the end of the season, the 32-year-old could be about to end his eight-year association with Chelsea in January, with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona linked with the defender.

John Obi Mikel

29-year-old John Obi Mikel has yet to appear for Chelsea under Conte this season, and his future at Stamford Bridge looks in serious doubt.

The Nigerian international has slowly been phased out of the first team reckoning in recent seasons, making just 18 league appearances in their title-winning campaign in 2014/15.

And, with Conte clearly not a fan and the likes of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante well ahead of him in the pecking order, Mikel is likely to leave the club in January.

The midfielder, like Oscar, has been linked with a move to China in the upcoming transfer window and, like Ivanovic, his contract is up in the summer, so the Blues may try and secure a deal for the Nigerian in January.

It looks like his ten-year spell at Chelsea, in which time he has appeared 374 times for the Blues, is set to end next month.

Cesc Fabregas

Despite recent excellent displays for Chelsea, there is still speculation that Cesc Fabregas may leave Chelsea in January.

The Spaniard was completely out of favour prior to their away game at Manchester City a few weeks back, but his brilliant display in place of the injured Nemanja Matic appears to have swayed Conte’s judgement, as Fabregas has since started again for the Blues, netting in their win over Sunderland.

However, it’s clear that Matic and N’Golo Kante is still Conte’s preferred central midfield partnership, so Fabregas may still be tempted to move on in January.

He has been linked with West Ham and Juventus in the past, but recent reports suggest that he could move to China in the near future.

Despite his recent efforts, there’s no guarantee that Fabregas will remain a Chelsea player come February 1.
