3 players who could leave Chelsea in January to play football elsewhere

Lampard has been praised for his summer dealings.

With a squad full of talent, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has struggled to keep a lot of his players happy and playing regularly this campaign.

The Englishman has already allowed his fellow countryman Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley to go on season-long-loans to Fulham and Aston Villa respectively.

But with the January transfer window now a matter of weeks away, will more players follow by leaving the club permanently or on a temporary basis to gain more first team football.

We take a look at three players who could be playing their football elsewhere at the end of January…

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso’s days at Chelsea seemed to be numbers, with the Spaniard clearly not in favour under Lampard this campaign. Summer signing Ben Chilwell was always going to be first choice, but Alonso has fallen down the pecking order beneath full back Emerson. Alonso turns 30-years-old in December and is unlikely to leave the club on loan in January, with Serie A outfit Inter Milan one of the sides eyeing a permanent move according to reports.

Fikayo Tomori

Tomori will be disappointed with the lack of first team opportunities he has been given this campaign. The young English centre back put in some fantastic performances last season but has struggled for game time in 2020/21. The all-action defender played just 45 minutes of Premier League football this season and has been limited to just three starts in all competitions. Is Lampard does decide to loan out the talented youngster, there is certain to be a host of clubs interested in his services.

Jorginho

This last name may come as a surprise, as Brazilian Jorginho is a regular squad member at Chelsea and has started a lot of games this season. However, with numerous reports linking West Ham United’s Declan Rice to the club, Lampard may feel he has to release vital funds to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge. N’golo Kante is preferred over Jorginho which could see the holding midfielder depart the club in early 2021.
