3 Players who could leave Manchester United on Transfer Deadline Day

It’s expected to be a very busy Deadline Day at Manchester United, especially following the surprise 6-1 thrashing at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Red Devils’ dismal performance just highlighted the need to bolster a squad which has just had one new arrival this summer in the shape of Donny van de Beek.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hopeful that his board can secure some new faces to add competition to his squad.

However, the Norwegian boss could also be looking to get some players out of the Old Trafford door to make room for fresh blood.

Spurs embarrassed United at Old Trafford.

So, with the 11pm deadline looming, here’s three players that could be leaving Manchester United on Transfer Deadline Day…

Brandon Williams

Sky Sports report that Southampton have enquired about taking Brandon Williams on loan. The 20-year-old enjoyed a real breakthrough season at Old Trafford last term, making 36 appearances in all competitions. However, now with BBC Sport claiming that United are closing in on the signing of Porto left-back Alex Telles, the Red Devils could allow their academy graduate to go and get regular first-team football. Williams, who has played twice this term, signed a new contract until 2024 with United back in August.

Chris Smalling

This is one that has gone on all summer, but Sky Sports report that Roma are finally close to sealing a deal to sign Chris Smalling. The 30-year-old impressed in a season-long loan spell with the Italian club last term and they have been trying to make it a permanent move for months. It was claimed a few days back that the clubs are holding positive talks for the centre-back, who has been training on his own since returning to United. The Red Devils reportedly initially wanted £20million for the England international and it’s thought the Serie A outfit are getting closer to agreeing a fee. It’s claimed that Smalling will be offered a three-year deal.

Sergio Romero

ESPN reporter Rob Dawson has taken to Twitter to report that United goalkeeper Sergio Romero could leave the club on Deadline Day. The Argentine has gone from second to third choice stopper this term after Dean Henderson returned to the club following his loan spell with Sheffield United. Dawson has not named any possible destinations for the 33-year-old but The Sun recently linked him with a move to Everton where he would provide competition to England international Jordan Pickford.
