This summer will most likely be an extremely nervy transfer window for Manchester United fans. Why? Because Real Madrid seem to have set their sights on The Red Devils’ star man, David De Gea.

Although their £60m move was rejected by United earlier this summer, it is almost inevitable that Madrid will respond with a higher offer.

Money is of no object to the Spanish giants and when they want someone, they usually get them.

It is therefore a very worrying time for United fans, who will be extremely worried that their irreplaceable goalkeeper will leave the club.

Although the English club would be doing all they can to keep De Gea, they must prepare accordingly if their worst fears are realised.

Shoot! Draws up a list of three goalkeepers that Manchester United should be targeting just in case De Gea does leave for the La Liga champions…

Jan Oblak

Jan Oblak would not come cheap, but if Manchester United are to get someone as close to David De Gea’s ability as they possibly can, then Oblak should be high on their list.

At just 24 years-old, Oblak has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers and still has his best years ahead of him.

He has spent three years as the goalkeeper of one of the world’s most feared defences. This season, Atletico easily had the league’s best defence in La Liga; having only conceded 27 goals in their 38 games.

Last season was the same story; Atletico only conceded 18 times across their whole league campaign. A key component for their solid defence was the consistency of their ‘keeper.

The Atletico Madrid man is the most established goalkeeper on this list, but would also be the most expensive. But a move for the Slovenian would be well worth it.

Joe Hart

Joe Hart would be the most surprising replacement, but he should be someone United consider to be their new number one.

Despite being England and Manchester City’s No.1 for many years, Hart has fallen out of favour at City following the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager.

He spent this campaign on loan at Torino, where he could not stop the Italian club from conceding an alarming 66 goals from their 38 league games.

Nevertheless, there is no disputing Hart’s pedigree. He had accumulated 71 England caps. He has also featured in 494 games at club level, despite only being 30 years of age. He is also a two-time Premier League winner, and has won the Golden Glove on four occasions.

A move across United would be unlikely, but not impossible. With City looking to offload Hart, he is on the shop window and could go for cheap.

Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester City had a very poor campaign this year, but whereas the performance levels of most their players have dropped, Kasper Schmeichel has thrived in goal.

Now 30 years of age, Schmeichel has only spent three full seasons in the Premier League. But he has certainly made his mark.

Last season, he was a reliable figure in goal as Leicester pulled off the biggest shock in footballing history by winning the league. This term he improved further; being named Leicester Players’ Player and Player of the Season.

It would make sense for Schmeichel to join United. His father, Peter, played for the club between 1991-1999 and has gone down as one of the best goalkeepers in their history.

Although Kasper has not yet enjoyed the same success of his father, he has shown his quality over the past two years after two superb seasons with The Foxes.

There is potential for a mass exodus at Leicester this summer. From their title-winning squad, N’Golo Kante and Claudio Ranieri have already departed. Could Schmeichel be next?
