Manchester United managed a 1-1 draw against FC Rostov on Thursday night in the first leg of their last 16 clash in the Europa League.
Manager Jose Mourinho was far from happy with the state of the pitch in southern Russia, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan netted a vital away goal ten minutes before half time to give the Red Devils an advantage going into next week’s return leg at Old Trafford.
Although Mourinho’s men did concede an equaliser eight minutes into the second period, the United boss will be pretty satisfied to take a draw back to Manchester, where they’ll fully expect to get the job done next week.
Despite United still being in the race for the top four, as well as the last 16 of the Europa League and last eight of the FA Cup, speculation has already begun about potential incomings and outgoings in the summer.
And one potential outgoing could be striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has netted 26 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils this term.
The Swedish star has been linked with a move to the MLS, and if he does indeed leave the club in the summer, it would leave a huge void which would certainly need filling.
Thus, here are THREE potential replacements for Ibrahimovic should the 35-year-old move in the upcoming transfer window…
Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku has once again proved to be one of the best strikers in England after a fine season with Everton so far.
The Belgian international netted his 18th Premier League goal of the campaign in their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham last week, and that took his tally to nine goals in nine games since the turn of the year.
The 23-year-old has everything you need to be a world-class modern-day centre forward, with his pace and power always causing problems for top-flight defences.
United have been linked with the Toffees star in the past, and it’s interest they could follow up in the summer if Ibrahimović leaves the club.
Paulo Dybala
Recent reports suggest that Juventus’ Paulo Dybala is getting increasingly frustrated at the Serie A giants, which could be good news for United.
The Argentine international has been in terrific form for Massimiliano Allegri’s side this term despite a spell on the sidelines through injury, as he has netted seven goals and laid five assists in 20 league appearances so far.
The 23-year-old scored a brace and produced a man-of-the-match display in their 3-1 win over Napoli a few weeks ago to further signal his excellent ability and undoubted potential.
Dybala has played over 200 times already in his career, so United wouldn’t be signing an unknown, and given that he has scored at every club he has been at, both in the league and in Europe, he has already proven to be a quality striker and one that could lead the line at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
Edinson Cavani
Ibrahimović teamed up with striker Edinson Cavani at Paris Saint-Germain between 2013 and 2016, and the latter could also make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
The Uruguayan international has scored 27 goals in just 26 Ligue 1 appearances for Unai Emery’s side this season, as well as eight in eight during their Champions League campaign which came to a stunning end when Barcelona overturned a 4-0 deficit to advance 6-5 on aggregate on Wednesday.
Cavani has scored 120 goals in just 185 games for the French champions, but he has yet to agree a new deal at the club, which expires at the end of next season.
Thus, United may sense a chance to land the 30-year-old this summer in the hope that he’ll have a similar effect to that of Ibrahimović in Manchester.
