3 reasons why Chelsea will beat Burnley in the Premier League today

Premier League leaders Chelsea travel to Burnley this afternoon (1.30pm kick-off) hoping to put distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

Antonio Conte’s men got the better of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal 3-1 last time out to go nine points clear at the top, and the Blues will be hoping to clinch a 20th victory of the campaign at Turf Moor this afternoon.

However, it won’t be easy against Sean Dyche’s Clarets, given that they have won nine and drawn one of their 13 home league games this term, which is the third-best home record in the whole of the Premier League.

Burnley go into today’s encounter off the back of a frustrating 2-1 defeat at Watford last time out, but they know that they are a different side at Turf Moor, and will certainly provide the leaders with a stern test this afternoon.

Nonetheless, Chelsea go into the clash as heavy favourites to record an 11th away win of the season, and here are THREE reasons why they will clinch all three points this afternoon…

They look unbeatable

When Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at White Hart Lane back on January 4, many wondered whether that would knock the stuffing out of the Blues after such a long winning run.

Well, it has done nothing of the sort.

Conte’s men since then have won three of their four Premier League games, and drawn the other at Anfield a few weeks back.

They were patient but got their rewards against Hull, and then dismantled both Leicester and Arsenal to open up a nine-point lead at the top of the division.

Hull played a good game against the Blues, but Conte’s men found a way to win, and even a strong second half display from Liverpool wasn’t enough to get the three points.

Chelsea look unbeatable at the moment, and although Burnley have an excellent home record, it’s difficult to see past an away win on Sunday.

Phenomenal record vs lesser sides

While the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal have all come unstuck against so-called lesser sides in recent weeks, Chelsea haven’t had such troubles.

Conte’s men have played 16 games against the bottom 14 sides, and they have failed to win just one of them.

That was all the way back in September, where a late Diego Costa strike earned the Blues a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium.

Other than that though, Chelsea have won all 15 games against the bottom 14 teams in the Premier League, scoring 37 goals and conceding just six.

It’s a phenomenal record, and one the Blues look set to continue on Sunday.

As if the fact that they’re unbeatable at the moment and they have only dropped two points against sides lower than sixth in the league wasn’t enough, Chelsea also possess the best away record of any side in the Premier League.

Conte’s men have won eight of their 12 away matches this term, and drawn two of the other four.

Only Tottenham and Arsenal have beaten the Blues on their travels this season, while they also picked up draws away at Swansea and Liverpool.

However, two of those games in which they dropped points came in their last three games, which gives Burnley some comfort ahead of a huge test at Turf Moor on Sunday.

It’s the battle of one of the best home records in the league against the best away record on Sunday, and Chelsea will be confident of notching up a ninth away win of the campaign against the Clarets.
