3 reasons why Chelsea will beat Liverpool this evening

Premier League leaders Chelsea travel to Liverpool this evening (8pm kick-off) in what is sure to be a huge test of their title credentials.

Antonio Conte’s men went eight points clear at the top last time out with a 2-0 victory over Hull at Stamford Bridge, their 15th win in their last 16 league matches.

Add in two comfortable successes in the FA Cup, and the Blues are in incredible form, and will take some stopping between now and May.

However, one of those sides capable of stopping them is Liverpool, who currently sit fourth in the table and ten points adrift of tonight’s opponents.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have struggled in 2017 thus far, winning just one of their seven games, yet they are unbeaten against the top six this term, and have only lost one of 14 games against the other members of the top six since Klopp took charge in October 2015.

Thus, it’s all set up to be a fascinating encounter at Anfield, and here are THREE reasons why it will be Chelsea who collect all three points this evening…

They are flying

Conte’s men have won 15 of their last 16 Premier League matches to go eight points clear at the top, and very much the hot favourites to win the title come May.

The Blues were eighth in the division and eight points behind leaders Manchester City after losing 3-0 at Arsenal on September 24, but since then have picked up 45 points from a possible 48, with Tottenham, and West Ham in the League Cup, the only sides to have beaten Chelsea in the last 127 days.

It goes without saying, but Chelsea are absolutely flying and, although Tuesday will provide them with one of their biggest tests between now and May, they will be confident of getting the points needed to all but end Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title this season, and indeed enhance their own.

Responded brilliantly to Spurs loss

Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Chelsea back on January 4 ended their long winning run in the Premier League, and meant that they missed out on breaking Arsenal’s record of 13 straight league victories.

Conte’s men were outplayed by Mauricio Pochettino’s men at White Hart Lane, and many wondered whether it would have an effect on the Blues over the coming weeks.

Well, it hasn’t.

Since then, they have dispatched of both Peterborough and Brentford in the FA Cup, and beaten Leicester and Hull in the Premier League to seize the authority in the title race once more.

The Diego Costa saga could also have thrown them off, but it hasn’t, and Chelsea have responded brilliantly to that Spurs defeat, and look exactly like the side that won those 13 games in a row.

Tuesday will be a tough test, but they are playing well enough and confidently enough to get the three points at Anfield tomorrow night.

First of two games which could clinch title

Chelsea travel to Liverpool tomorrow and then host Arsenal on Saturday in what are two games that could go some way to helping them win the Premier League title.

Conte’s men currently have an eight-point lead over the Gunners at the top, but two wins this week would put them at least 13 points clear of the Reds, and ten clear of Arsene Wenger’s men.

It would also send out a statement of intent to their nearest rivals, especially as the Reds are particularly strong against other members of the top six, while Arsenal have been in decent form over the last few weeks.

Conte will know that this week could take his side one step closer to regaining the title, starting with a victory at Anfield.
