3 reasons why Chelsea will beat Tottenham in the Premier League this evening

Chelsea go to Tottenham this evening (8pm kick-off) looking to become the first side in Premier League history to win 14 successive matches in a single season.

Antonio Conte’s side equalled Arsenal’s record of 13 victories by beating Stoke 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve, and they’ll hope to start 2017 with a record-breaking win at White Hart Lane tonight.

There is extra incentive for the Blues as well given Liverpool’s 2-2 draw away at Sunderland on Monday, as Conte’s men can go eight points clear at the top of the division should they win in North London.

However, they’ll have to do what no side has done since May last year to open up an eight-point lead and indeed break the record, which is beat Tottenham at home in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won seven and drawn two of their nine league games this term, and go into this one having won their last four league matches, and indeed their last four at White Hart Lane.

In what is likely to be an interesting clash at White Hart Lane, here are THREE reasons why Chelsea will secure a record-breaking 14th successive Premier League win this evening…

They are unstoppable

Stoke had a real go at Chelsea on New Year’s Eve, yet the Blues once again found a way to win, beating the Potters 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

That’s not the first time a question has been asked of the Blues on this incredible run, and it’s not the first time they’ve had an answer.

Both Spurs and Manchester City took the lead against them last month, but were unable to get a result, while the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and West Brom all defended stubbornly against Conte’s men, but all lost by a goal to nil.

Chelsea have swept aside Manchester United and Everton, but they’ve also won when not at their best – it’s the perfect combination to go on and win the title.

At present, they look unstoppable.

Best away record in league

No team in the division has picked up more points than Chelsea on the road this season.

The Blues have won seven and drawn one of their nine Premier League away matches, with their only defeat coming at Arsenal back in September.

Since then, they have won all six of their away matches, and conceded just once in that time, although no opposition player has actually scored against them in that run, as the only goal they have conceded came courtesy of their own defender Gary Cahill against Manchester City.

One of the best home records takes on the division best away record – something will have to give this evening though.

Passed every test so far

The Blues have had everything thrown at them during December as they slowly became the team to beat in the Premier League.

And they have passed every test so far.

They trailed at home to Tottenham and away at Manchester City earlier this season, but on both occasions stayed in the game and then punished the opposition with breath-taking second half displays.

Stoke refused to go away despite twice falling behind on New Year’s Eve, but Chelsea were able to step it up a gear to win 4-2 in the end.

Their 1-0 wins over West Brom, Sunderland, and Crystal Palace were indicative of a side winning when not necessarily at their best, but they still found a way past three solid defences on those occasions.

Just when it looks like they might drop points or one side may get the better of them, they have turned it up another notch.

Spurs will be a tricky game for them tonight but, based on what they’ve done so far, you’d expect them to pass another test at White Hart Lane this evening.
