3 reasons why Liverpool will beat Swansea City this lunchtime

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool host Swansea City this lunchtime (12.30pm kick-off) in what is their first Premier League home game of 2017.

The Reds registered their first win of the New Year with a hard-fought 1-0 success over Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday, which secured their place in the last 32 of the FA Cup where they will face Championship Wolves at Anfield a week today.

Nonetheless, it is back to league action for Klopp’s men this weekend, and they’ll hope to record a 14th league victory of the campaign when Paul Clement’s struggling Swans visit Merseyside today.

The Welsh side are bottom of the Premier League having won just four of their 21 league games, but they know that a win would take them out of the bottom three.

However, it’s going to be a tough ask against a Liverpool side that have yet to lose at Anfield this season, and need the three points to keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea, who play on Sunday.

Thus, with the Reds really needing all three points, here are THREE reasons why they will beat Swansea this lunchtime…

Home comforts

Liverpool have played 12 games at Anfield in all competitions this season, and they haven’t lost any of them.

The Reds have won seven and drawn the other two of their nine Premier League matches at home, with Manchester United and West Ham the only sides to take points from their visits to the red half of Merseyside.

Add in victories over Tottenham and Leeds in the League Cup, and the draw with Plymouth in the FA Cup, and Klopp’s men are clearly a very strong side on their own turf, and will undoubtedly make things difficult for the Swans this afternoon.

Although they have won just one of their five games in 2017, only one of those has been at home, so they’ll be looking forward to returning back to Anfield, where they will play their next four games in all competitions.

Finally got first win of 2017

It took the Reds until their fifth game of the year to get their first win, but it came courtesy of a Lucas header against Plymouth Argyle in midweek.

Klopp’s men weren’t at their best but secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and the win will give everyone around the club a huge boost going into the weekend’s clash with Swansea.

Liverpool had drawn with both Sunderland and the Pilgrims to start the year, before losing to Southampton in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on January 11.

Nonetheless, an improved display in their draw with Manchester United and now their win over Plymouth will increase the confidence levels in the Liverpool squad, as they got that first-win monkey off their backs on Wednesday night.

The returning Philippe Coutinho will also give Klopp a boost ahead of Swansea in what has been a decent week for the Reds – can they cap it off with three more points in the Premier League?

Need momentum ahead of crucial few weeks

These next few weeks could define Liverpool’s season.

Following the Swansea game this afternoon, Klopp’s men will then set about trying to overturn a one-goal deficit in their League Cup semi-final at home to Southampton on Wednesday.

Depending on Wednesday’s result could impact Klopp’s decisions against Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup next Saturday, before they host Premier League leaders Chelsea on January 31.

That’s four games in ten days, all four at home, and all four crucial in helping Liverpool try and achieve their ambitions for the season.

Four wins and everything will be rosy at Anfield, yet anything less could harm their trophy challenge ahead of the final few months of the campaign.

Starting off with a win over Swansea is important in building momentum ahead of these crucial encounters.
