3 reasons why Liverpool will win the 2016/17 Premier League title

It has been 26 years since Liverpool last won the league title but, if the first few months of the season are anything to go by, then that wait could be set to end very soon.

The Reds, embarking on their first full season under Jurgen Klopp, are top of the Premier League going into the international break after eight wins from their first 11 league games.

They have beaten Arsenal and Chelsea en route to the summit, with newly-promoted Burnley the only side who have got the better of Klopp’s men in all competitions so far this season.

Liverpool aren’t just winning games though, they are playing some excellent stuff, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane in wonderful form.

Klopp’s side have also reached the last eight of the League Cup, and will fancy their chances of making the last four when they host Championship side Leeds at the end of November.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s incredible start has got many people talking about whether they can go on and win the title this season, and here are THREE reasons why they will…

They will always score goals

With the way the front three are playing at the moment, Liverpool are going to take some stopping this season.

Mane, Firmino, and Coutinho have been outstanding so far, and don’t look like slowing down any time soon.

24-year-old Coutinho has been the one that has made Liverpool tick in recent years, and his five goals and five assists so far this season suggests that he’s going to be integral in their title push.

However, they are not relying on him like in previous years, as Mane has scored six times and laid on two assists, while Coutinho’s compatriot Firmino has five goals and three assists.

The big test will come when the front three have an off day, but already we’ve seen that the goals aren’t just limited to the front three, with Adam Lallana bagging three, and Dejan Lovren and Emre Can chipping in with two apiece.

Klopp’s men will always carry a goal threat, and defending against that front three, with the likes of Lallana, Can, and Georginio Wijnaldum behind them, is going to be seriously tough.

No European commitments

Klopp wants his teams to play a high-pressing, energetic style which demands all 11 players to put in a shift.

And, for Liverpool this season, their lack of European football is going to help them out massively.

They have already run the most of any side in the division, and have covered the most ground – Klopp is having an effect.

And, by playing just once a week, occasionally twice due to League Cup commitments, it gives him time to work with the players on the training ground, and it gives the players time to rest and recover ahead of their next game.

Obviously, a club like Liverpool want to be in the Champions League every year, but not being in it this year could benefit them greatly as they look to end a 26-year wait for the Premier League title.

Their record against the top sides

Liverpool have got an excellent record against the other sides that will be challenging them for the title.

Of the current top six, the Reds have played four of them this season, beating Arsenal and Chelsea (both of which were away), and drawing at Tottenham and at home to Manchester United.

Since Klopp took charge on October 8 last year, Liverpool have lost just one of their 12 games against the current top six sides, which was at home to Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United in January of this year.

Nevertheless, the overall record stands at played 12, won five, drawn six, and lost one, which is excellent, as these matches could decide the outcome of the title.

The main difference this year, except for Burnley, is that Liverpool haven’t come unstuck against the so-called lesser sides.

Combine that with their remarkably good record against the best in the division, and Liverpool could be looking at a 19th title this season.
