3 reasons why Tottenham will beat Manchester City this evening

In-form Tottenham visit Manchester City this evening (5.30pm kick-off) looking for a seventh successive Premier League victory.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side battered West Brom 4-0 last weekend to move up to second in the division, yet they remain seven points behind league leaders Chelsea after they won 3-0 at champions Leicester.

Nonetheless, Spurs’ excellent run has put them right in the mix for the title come May, and they could seriously outline their credentials with three points at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

Pep Guardiola’s City lost 4-0 at Everton last weekend to fall out of the Champions League places, so he knows that his side need to respond to keep the pace with the top four.

City have won their last three games at home, and only lost once their all season, but Spurs haven’t dropped any points since their last visit to Manchester when they lost 1-0 at Old Trafford last month.

Thus, with the build-up well underway to tonight’s clash, here are THREE reasons why Tottenham will secure a seventh straight Premier League win…

Form team in league

Six wins on the spin have taken Spurs from the cusps of the top four to serious title challengers.

Pochettino’s side were fifth and seven points adrift of second place Arsenal after a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on December 11, but since then they have picked up 18 points out of 18, and beaten the likes of Southampton, Chelsea, and West Brom.

Their win over Chelsea was particularly impressive, and it was another indication that on their day, Spurs are as good as anyone in the league.

That victory over the Blues, as well as their 2-0 success over City on October 2, will give the form team in the division vast amounts of confidence going into this evening’s clash.

Kane, Eriksen, Alli are flourishing

In their six-game winning run, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Christian Eriksen have scored a combined 15 goals, and have also provided six assists.

When these three are playing as they are, there aren’t many better frontlines in the Premier League.

England international Alli had a sensational breakthrough season last time out, netting ten times in the league, but he has already matched that this term, suggesting that he is actually better now than he was last season.

Compatriot Kane has scored six goals in his last four games, and is on a high after a hat-trick against West Brom, and indeed the birth of his daughter a few days before that.

And Eriksen has improved dramatically over recent weeks after a comparably slow start to the campaign. The Dane has laid on four assists in his last four games, and it was his brilliant crosses which allowed Alli to twice head past Thibaut Courtois in their win over Chelsea on January 4.

Clearly, this trio is irrepressible at the moment and, against a City defence which has struggled for several weeks now, they will cause them many problems and create several opportunities.

Will get at shaky City backline

Pochettino has already got one over Guardiola this season, as Spurs ended the City manager’s winning start to life in England with a 2-0 win back in October.

And who’s to say that the Spurs boss won’t do so again this evening?

City are in a worse state going into today’s game than they were when they faced Spurs last time, yet the North London side outplayed the Citizens, as Pochettino’s men pressed high and gave them little time on the ball, as well as using his full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose to good effect.

Now, with Spurs on fire going forward and City hopelessly poor at the back, Pochettino’s side will relish the chance of getting at the Citizens’ back line, who will quite simply have to improve upon last weekend’s debacle at Everton.
