3 replacements for the wantaway Dimitri Payet at West Ham

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has today confirmed in his pre-Crystal Palace press conference that star man Dimitri Payet no longer wants to play for the Hammers.

The French international was sensational for the East London club in his debut season in English football last term, netting nine goals and laying on 12 assists for the club as they finished a highly respectable seventh place in the top-flight.

This set the tone for an excellent summer for Payet, who scored three times for France in their run to the European Championships final, and as a result speculation was building about his future at West Ham, with Champions League winners Real Madrid reportedly interested in him at the start of the current season.

However, 29-year-old Payet pledged his future to the Hammers, but a sluggish campaign thus far, which has seen Payet net just twice for the club, and Bilic’s men win just six league games, appears to have changed his mind.

Although Bilic has said that the club will not sell the Frenchman, attentions will surely turn to who they can find to replace the influential attacker, so here are THREE players West Ham could look to bring in to replace the wantaway Payet…

Robert Snodgrass

West Ham have unsurprisingly failed with a £3 million bid for Hull’s Robert Snodgrass in the last few days, but they could up that now Payet is refusing to play.

Scottish international Snodgrass has been Hull’s most important player so far this season, scoring seven goals and laying on two assists in the Premier League for the Tigers.

Being involved in nine goals means that the 29-year-old has contributed to over half of their tally in the league thus far, and it’s clear that his form and fitness between now and the end of the campaign could determine whether or not Hull avoid relegation.

However, West Ham also now need a player of that influence, so they have to try and test Hull’s resolve over the coming weeks, as Snodgrass would be an excellent signing.

Memphis Depay

Everton appear to be the frontrunners for the signature of Manchester United midfielder Memphis Depay, but could West Ham hijack their move for the Dutchman?

The 22-year-old has struggled ever since he made the move from PSV Eindhoven back in 2015, and has this season been restricted to just three substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, Depay clearly has potential, as we have seen when he was at PSV and indeed for the Dutch national team, but he needs a platform and the backing to go out and reach that potential.

He has got pace and trickery in the final third, and would certainly inject some creativity into the Hammers’ front line – it would be a risk, but one that could certainly pay off for West Ham.

Cesc Fabregas

18 assists in the 2014/15 season, as well as five goals and seven assists in last year’s campaign, yet Cesc Fabregas is not a certain and regular starter for Premier League leaders Chelsea at present.

That’s because Antonio Conte has mainly stuck with a midfield partnership of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic this season and, although Fabregas has appeared more regularly in recent weeks, he’s still not one of the first names on the teamsheet.

This uncertainty, as well possible incomings at Stamford Bridge this month, could tempt Fabregas to move elsewhere, and one club that would certainly need his creativity is West Ham.

Although he wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement for Payet, the Spanish international would be able to contribute the goals and assists that Payet did last season, as well as providing the West Ham midfield with more solidity and guile.

If they can get a deal done for the 29-year-old, it would be a huge scalp for the Hammers.
