3 summer signings who would be better than Mesut Ozil for Arsenal

Arsenal eased into the semi-finals of the FA Cup after they saw off giant-killers Lincoln City 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Imps arrived in North London having already knocked Oldham, Ipswich, Brighton, and Burnley out of the competition, but Arsene Wenger’s men proved one obstacle too many, with Theo Walcott’s strike just before half time proving to be the key to the Gunners’ success.

And that’s because the floodgates opened in the second half, with goals from Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, and Aaron Ramsey, as well as an own goal from Luke Waterfall, securing Arsenal’s place in the last four, where they’ll meet Manchester City next month.

With the FA Cup very much a trophy chance for Wenger’s men, as well as their battle for a 21st successive top four finish in the Premier League, the Gunners still have plenty to play for this season, although it hasn’t prevented speculation building about potential incomings and outgoings at the club this summer.

And one man who could be on his way out is attacker Mesut Ozil, who has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United as his contract situation at the Emirates remains unresolved.

Thus, if Ozil were to leave the club this summer, Wenger would have to find a replacement for the German World Cup winner, and here are THREE signings who would be better than the 28-year-old for Arsenal…

Lorenzo Insigne

Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, and he continues to show why many English clubs have been keeping tabs on him this season.

The 25-year-old Italian international broke into the first team in Naples all the way back in 2012 after several loan spells away from the club, and has since then proved his worth with 40 goals in 202 games for the club, 24 of which coming in the last season-and-a-half.

With ten goals and seven assists this term, Insigne is likely to record his best season in front of goal for Napoli, and he has also netted some crucial goals at crucial times for the club so far, including a brace in their 3-0 win over Crotone on Sunday, and both goals in their win at Udinese back in November.

With five goals and three assists in his last nine games, the forward is in the form of his life, and it’s form that could seriously benefit Arsenal should they bring him through the door in the summer.

Marco Reus

Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus has not enjoyed his best season at the club this time round, although injury has played a big part in his struggles.

However, the German international has still managed six goals and five assists in just 15 games for Thomas Tuchel’s side this term, but it has been his previous seasons at Dortmund which have shown him to be one of the most talented forwards in Europe.

The 27-year-old scored 76 goals in his first four seasons at the club prior to this campaign, including 23 in 43 games last time out to help Tuchel’s men to third in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal have long been linked with Reus, yet a move could finally take place this summer should Ozil leave the Emirates.

Isco

Despite netting six goals and laying on five assists in 21 La Liga games for Real Madrid this season, Spanish midfielder Isco has still yet to nail down a place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven.

The 24-year-old has only started 13 of those 21 appearances, and with just 77 minutes of action in their Champions League campaign thus far, he’s clearly not at the forefront of Zidane’s mind when the Frenchman picks his team.

Of his last five appearances for the Spanish giants, Isco has started just twice, although did play 79 minutes in their most recent La Liga clash, a 2-1 victory over Real Betis on Sunday.

Nonetheless, it’s clear that the attacker is not a regular for Real Madrid and that could be enough to convince him of a move away this summer, and with Ozil potentially on his way out of Arsenal, Wenger should attempt to beat Tottenham to Isco’s signature in the summer.
