3 Things to keep an eye on as Manchester United play Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester United travel to France to take on Paris Saint-Germain in their first group match in the 2020/21 Champions League.

After missing out on the competition last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been given a tough opener on their return as they face last season’s finalists.

The Red Devils will have fond recent memory of this fixture though after overturning a 2-0 first-leg defeat to win 3-1 in Paris to reach the quarter-finals two seasons ago.

However, as mentioned, PSG have improved from that famous defeat and were only narrowly defeated by Bayern Munich in August’s final.

So with no fans in the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, what should supporters watch out for?

Here’s three things to keep an eye on as Manchester United take on Paris Saint-Germain…

1. United’s Centre-Back Problem…

With Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly both missing for the trip through injury, it remains to be seen who will partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of defence. Axel Tuanzebe is the other fit centre-half in the squad but has not played for 10 months due to injury. If Solskjaer does not feel comfortable throwing the 22-year-old in then it could mean either Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic get pushed back into that position.

2. Pogba Returns…

Paul Pogba was given a breather for the 4-1 win at Newcastle but was introduced to the action with the score at 1-1. The midfielder is now expected to be restored to the starting XI as he travels to his native France. Pogba, who has been criticised for his performances in recent times, will be aiming to kick-start his season and show everyone what he can do. It may also be a chance to show PSG what they could have with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire next summer.

3. Telles Time…

Solskjaer’s search for a new left-back was ended when he secured the signing of Alex Telles from FC Porto. The 27-year-old, who has been brought in as competition to Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams, is expected to make his debut in Paris on Tuesday. Looking at his performances in Portugal, the Brazilian should add an extra attacking dimension to the Red Devils. Telles notched 13 goals and 11 assists last season which will be exciting reading for United fans.
