3 things Tottenham fans learnt from their 4-2 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea

Chelsea are through to the FA Cup final after beating London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 in a stunning semi-final tie.

Willian bagged a brace for Antonio Conte’s side in the first-half, scoring both a free-kick and a penalty. Spurs’ Harry Kane equalised for Tottenham in between the Brazilian’s double.

Dele Alli’s goal shortly after the restart put the two sides level for the second time in the match.

Substitute Eden Hazard put Chelsea back in the lead, before he set up Nemanja Matic, who secured the victory with a sublime strike from outside the penalty area.

The defeat for Spurs was their first loss since February’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool.

Spurs have not lifted the FA Cup trophy since 1991 and their wait to lift the trophy goes on for at least another season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side can now focus all of their attentions back onto the Premier League, as they still have a chance of clinching the title, but they only have six matches to overtake current league leaders Chelsea, who are four points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Silverware quest continues

Tottenham manager Pochettino.

Saturday’s defeat for Pochettino’s side means that their nine-year wait for domestic silverware is in dangerous risk of becoming even longer.

With their FA Cup dream for this season now over, all that Spurs can lift this season is the Premier League trophy.

They are currently four points behind London rivals Chelsea in the league table, with only six league games remaining.

Spurs will be hoping that they can gain maximum points from their final fixtures and that may be enough to give Tottenham their first-ever Premier League title and Pochettino’s first major honour as a manager.

Momentum swing?

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

Going into the title race, Spurs’ momentum will have dropped following the loss to their title-chasing rivals.

Chelsea were lacking confidence going into the cup semi-final following recent league defeats to Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

However, The Blues’ victory will have swung the title momentum back towards the South West London side.

Pochettino’s side need to gain maximum points in their next league game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, otherwise their title chasing chances may be effectively over.

Missing Rose

Tottenham and England first choice left-back Danny Rose was absent for the semi-final after sustaining a serious knee ligament injury back in January.

His omission meant the South Korean international forward Heung-min Son was forced to play as a left-wing back.

He struggled during the game and it was surprising to see Ben Davies left on the bench, as in recent weeks he has performed very well in this position.

Luckily for Spurs, Rose is set to return for this Saturday’s North London derby against Arsenal, with every game for Tottenham slowly becoming a must win fixture.
