3 top signings Everton could land with £90 million Lukaku money

Everton cut the gap between themselves and Manchester United to just two points after a 3-0 success over West Brom last weekend.

The Toffees took full advantage of Jose Mourinho’s side being in FA Cup action by recording a 13th league win of the campaign, with goals from Kevin Mirallas, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Romelu Lukaku securing Ronald Koeman’s men a fifth successive home victory in the Premier League.

It means that, although the Toffees remain seventh in the table, they are now just two points behind United in sixth, and just three points behind Arsenal in fifth.

A major factor in their fine run of form has been the goals of forward Lukaku, although the Belgian has in the last few days said that he will not sign a new deal at Goodison Park, at the moment anyway.

And, unsurprisingly, this has led to speculation that the 23-year-old could be on his way out of the club in the summer, and with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly interested, it’s going to be a tough ask keeping Lukaku at Goodison Park over the summer.

Nonetheless, the money they could get for the striker will surely be spent on improving the squad, so here are THREE top signings that Koeman could land with the money generated from Lukaku’s departure…

Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has had a terrific season at Southampton, and was linked with several top clubs during the January transfer window.

However, the Dutch international remained at St Mary’s, although hasn’t played for Claude Puel’s side since due to an injury he picked up in their 3-0 victory over Leicester on January 22.

Koeman brought the 25-year-old to the Premier League when he was boss on the South Coast last season, and although he made a slow start to life south of the border, he gradually became a more accomplished defender at this level, and this season he has taken it up another level, with it arguable that he has been the best centre-back in the league thus far.

And that could bring even greater interest come the summer, and with Everton reportedly interested during the winter window, and with it likely that Phil Jagielka will leave in the summer, a new centre-back could be a priority for Koeman, and there aren’t many better than van Dijk.

Troy Deeney

The potential departure of Romelu Lukaku will leave a gaping hole in the Everton frontline, and one Koeman will quite simply have fill in the summer.

And one man he could go after, having been linked with him earlier in the campaign, is Watford striker Troy Deeney.

The 28-year-old, who has still yet to receive an England cap, has scored nine goals and laid on three assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Hornets this season, with his strike against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day his 100th for the club.

His recent form has been superb, netting five goals in six league games for Walter Mazzarri’s side, and his aerial prowess and ability to hold the ball up is similar to that of Lukaku’s, while both are fine finishers.

Deeney is clearly a very adept forward at Premier League level, he scored 13 times for Watford last term as well, and he’s one that could go some way to filling the hole vacated by Lukaku this summer.

Kasper Dolberg

Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg is one of the hottest properties in European football, and is currently embarking on a mightily impressive debut season in the Eredivisie.

The 19-year-old, who has already been capped by Denmark at senior level, has scored 13 goals in just 25 league appearances for the Dutch giants this term, helping them to second place in the division and just four points behind leaders Feyenoord.

Although Dolberg endured a barren spell in front of goal between November and January, he has netted six goals and laid on three assists in his last ten appearances for Ajax, including a brace in their 3-0 success over Twente on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, there has been reported interest for the striker across Europe, and one of those sides are Everton, who may look at Dolberg as the perfect long-term replacement for Lukaku should the latter leave Goodison Park this summer.
