5 Championship players who could be set for Premier League transfers before October 16th deadline

Although transfer deadline day was officially on October 5th, Premier League clubs still have until 5pm on Friday the 16th to sign players from EFL clubs

With a host of top talent in the Championship, now will be the chance for the country’s elite to recruit those targets needed to fill the spaces in their squads.

There’s been plenty of stories in the rumour mill about players taking that step up to the top-flight, but which deals could possibly happen?

Here we highlight 5 names from the second-tier who reportedly have a good chance of calling themselves Premier League footballers by the end of this working week…

Joe Rodon

We start with a 22-year-old who has made a real breakthrough over the past couple of years in Swansea City’s Joe Rodon. The 6ft 4in centre-back, who is also becoming a regular in Ryan Giggs’ Wales side, has played 54 senior matches for the Swans. According to The Sun, his performances in the Championship have caught the attention of Leicester City. It’s claimed that the Foxes are monitoring the defender but would rather buy him in January. However, that doesn’t mean the Welshman won’t move on before the window closes as the same article confirms that Tottenham have already had a £7million plus extras offer rejected.

Troy Deeney

One of the biggest characters in the Premier League over recent seasons has been Watford’s Troy Deeney. Now 32, the striker may not be quite as dynamic as he once was but his leadership skills could certainly be a useful asset to a club in the top-flight. According to the Sunday Mirror, (11/10, p73), it’s reported that Southampton are interested in signing the Hornets star. However, it’s claimed that the Saints are not the only club considering the centre-forward with both West Brom and Brighton also thought to be weighing up a swoop.

Josh King

AFC Bournemouth were relegated after five years in the Premier League back in July and with that took a bunch of talented players down with them. One of those is forward Josh King who had netted 48 top-flight goals for the club. According to talkSPORT, the Norway international could be set for an immediate return with both West Ham United and Everton interested in his signature. It’s claimed that the Hammers have had a bid turned down for the 27-year-old and that they now face competition from Carlo Ancelotti’s in-form Toffees.

Said Benrahma

If you put a list together of the most impressive players in the Championship over the past two seasons, Brentford’s Said Benrahma would certainly be up there. The creative midfielder was the Bees’ Supporters’ Player of the Year last term after his 17 goals and eight assists helped the London club reach the play-off final. There has been plenty of speculation that the Algeria international would move to the Premier League this summer and, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the 25-year-old is on the verge of joining West Ham United for around £30million, including add-ons.

Karlan Grant

The Huddersfield Town striker has netted 23 times in 57 matches for the Terriers since a January 2019 move from Charlton Athletic. A good finisher who works extremely hard for the team, Grant’s attributes haven’t gone unnoticed in the top-flight. According to Football Insider, the Championship outfit could lose their centre-forward to West Bromwich Albion. It’s claimed that the Baggies are nearing a loan-to-buy deal for the 23-year-old, who is valued at £16million.
