5 reasons why Premier League clubs should sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Forestieri

Sheffield Wednesday fans were treated to a masterclass on Saturday from their Argentine born-forward Fernando Forestieri.

Their midfield maestro scored his side’s first goal and was heavily involved in their second, as the Owls cruised to a 2-0 victory against strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Forestieri’s recent performances have helped Wednesday challenge for the play-off places and they are currently in seventh place in the Championship heading into December.

Shoot! look at five reasons why the midfielder could play in the Premier League in the not too distant future…

His Ability

You don’t have to be a Sheffield Wednesday fan to appreciate just how good Forestieri is. He simply tore apart Wolves on Saturday and proved just how much of a threat he is to any opposition when he is in form.

Despite being an attacking midfielder, Forestieri has a phenomenal goalscoring record.

Since arriving at Hillsborough, ‘Nando’ has notched 20 times in 56 league appearances for the Owls as well as picking up eight assists and 10 man of the match performances.

He often excites fans with his style of play as he is able to hold the ball incredibly well, score various types of goals, pick out eye of the needle passes and constantly pressure the opposition, which makes him a nightmare to play against.

His Versatility

Forestieri is not a one-trick pony by any means.

He is able to comfortably play in a number of positions. He is definitely strongest playing as a ‘number 10’; Forestieri is also comfortable playing on the left hand side and has also featured up front this season.

Not only would clubs be getting a superb player in Forestieri, but his versatility is just another perk the attacking midfielder has to his game.

Goalscoring Record

The midfielder scored an impressive 15 goals in his first season for Wednesday, which proves that he has a very good eye for goal, despite not being a striker.

Riyad Mahrez was the only Premier League midfielder to score more goals than Forestieri last campaign so if top-flight clubs are looking for more than just a creative spark, then look no further than Forestieri.

Forestieri has scored both of his last two league matches. If this run of form continues, Wednesday may struggle to keep hold of him next season.

No International Concerns

The 26-year-old is eligible for both Italy and Argentina, but despite making 26 youth caps and scoring nine youth goals for Italy, the midfielder is yet to feature at senior level for either nation.

A lot of clubs would argue that he does not have international experience, but realistically he is not likely to be risking himself on international duty.

Premier League managers such as Jürgen Klopp and Mark Hughes are known for complaining about players getting injured on international duty.

With Forestieri, you are safely avoiding risks that most Premier League players and managers face.

Premier League Interest

Forestieri may not have been linked with any Premier League sides just yet, but realistically it won’t be long before that will change.

He was heavily linked with a move to both Derby County and Newcastle United in the summer.

With The Magpies being huge favourites to get promoted, will they look into the Wednesday midfielder’s credentials prior to their inevitable return to the top flight?
