Would Morgan Schneiderlin fit in at Arsenal?

Morgan Schneiderlin is in the midst of a transfer storm, with a host of Premier League clubs rumoured to be vying for his signature in January.

Schneiderlin has only made two appearances in the league so far this season and didn’t even manage to make it off the bench during last week’s EFL cup victory over West Ham.

It’s clear that Jose Mourinho doesn’t rate the Frenchman, meaning he’ll likely be made available this coming January.

If Schneiderlin picks the right club and settles quickly, it’s entirely possible he could rediscover the form that got him his big money move to United in the first place, in which case he’d be a major asset.

Arsenal will be looking for reinforcements as they aim to win their first league title since 2004. The Gunners have been in fine form this season, having only lost one Premier League game so far.

The quality of Arsenal’s play in attack and has never been an issue, but question marks have long hung over the teams ability to get the job done when the going gets tough. They also regularly have to deal with criticism over a lack of leaders in the side.

Schneiderlin is the type of player who could help address these issues, a dynamic midfield player who is not afraid to put himself about. With that said here are TWO reasons why Arsenal should sign Schneiderlin this January…

They don’t have a top quality out-and-out defensive midfielder

Arsenal have a number of players who play in front of the back four, the more defensive of which are Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka. Coquelin and Elneny can do a job, but are they top quality? The answer is no.

Further still, Xhaka has recently been called out by Wenger amid disciplinary concerns, and besides, he hasn’t been imposing himself on games in the way that we have seen Morgan Schneiderlin do in the Premier League – most notably during his time at Southampton.

Arsenal have only kept four clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season. Everybody knows how devastating they can be in attack with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However, the fact that they normally have to score twice to win will concern Arsene Wenger.

If Arsenal manage to keep it a bit tighter at the back during the second half of the campaign then they’ll be hot favourites for the title; an in-form Schneiderlin could make all the difference.
