With the transfer window now in full swing, last season’s Premier League runners-up Arsenal are yet to make a signing so far this summer.
The Gunners have finished second in each of the past three campaigns, but manager Mikel Arteta is yet to delve into the transfer market to bolster his squad.
The North London outfit have been heavily linked with moves for a number of players in England and further afield, but it now appears that they are close to making their first summer signing.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement with Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard ahead of a proposed deal.
He claims that the Dane is keen on the idea of a move to The Emirates and has therefore said yes to the proposal from the Gunners, who are keen to bolster Arteta’s midfield options following the departure of Jorginho.
Norgaard, 31, joined the Bees from Italian outfit Fiorentina in 2019 and has since played 196 times for the West London club across all competitions.
The Denmark international played in 34 of Brentford’s 38 Premier League games last term, helping Thomas Frank’s side to briefly challenge for European qualification.
Romano claims that Brentford have been made aware of the player’s desire to join the Gunners, with the two clubs now in negotiations over a deal after Arsenal’s initial bid was rejected.
The North London side are said to have tabled an offer of around £8.5 million for the midfielder, who is under contract until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
While Brentford will be reluctant to lose their club captain following the departure of head coach Frank to Tottenham Hotspur, Romano appears to suggest that the two clubs are working to reach an agreement.
