Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £42 million deal to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to Eurosport France, via the Sun.

The Algerian scored 17 Premier League goals, and 18 in all competitions, last term as the Foxes made history by winning the English top-flight title for the first time in their 132-year history, but the 25-year-old is understood to have decided that he wants to leave the club and join the Gunners this summer.

Mahrez’s agent, Kamel Bengougam, was at Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Lens on Friday night, but has refused to comment on the new links with the north London outfit.

Arsene Wenger failed with a move for Jamie Vardy earlier in the summer after the England international snubbed a transfer to the Emirates, and the French boss now appears to have turned his attentions to his Leicester teammate, who cost just £400,000 when he moved to the King Power Stadium from Le Havre in 2014.
