Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that star full-back Hector Bellerin is close to putting pen-to-paper on a new deal to commit his long-term future to the club.

“We are working on that and we are not far,” said the Gunners boss in his pre-match press conference. “It will be great. Let’s say ‘it is great’ when it is done.”

The 21-year-old, who is reportedly set for a significant wage hike from his current £50,000-a-week deal, has been touted by both Premier League rivals Man City and his former club Barcelona amid the negotiations for a new deal in North London.

The Spain international arrived in the capital from the Catalan giants in 2011 and has rapidly climbed the ranks at The Emirates over the past few seasons.

A new deal for the full-back, alongside star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, has been a priority for Wenger in recent weeks as he looks to end the 12-year wait for a Premier League title, in his 20th year at the helm in North London.
