Arsenal have completed the signing of striker Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

The Gunners confirmed on Saturday that they had finalised a deal to land the 27-year-old, who has signed a long-term contract with his new side.

The North London outfit have been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks, and Gyokeres becomes the latest star to join Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Swedish striker joined Sporting from Championship side Coventry City in 2023 and scored 97 goals in 102 games for the Portuguese side across all competitions.

He also lifted the Portuguese top flight trophy during each of his two seasons with Sporting, finishing as the division’s top scorer on both occasions.

Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to The Emirates for much of the summer transfer window so far, and the Gunners have completed the signing.

The club announced that the Swede will wear the number 14 shirt for Arteta’s side this term, and will also immediately join up with his new teammates who are currently on a pre-season tour of Asia.

Gyokeres becomes Arsenal’s sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera.

The ex-Brighton and Hove Albion striker will add much-needed firepower to Arteta’s attacking options, with both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus having struggled in front of goal last term.

The Gunners face Premier League rivals Newcastle United in a friendly on Sunday afternoon, although it is not yet clear whether or not Gyokeres will be involved in the match.
