Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij, who is also being linked with Chelsea, according to talkSport.

The Dutch international is supposedly a target for both Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger, but the Serie A club are desperate to tie their man down to an new deal, with his current contract running out in 2018.

The Blues boss has, despite adding both David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to his ranks in the summer, made a new defender a priority going forward, and therefore will not take kindly to the Gunners turning the situation around De Vrij into a bidding war.

The 24-year-old was reportedly the subject of a formal bid from the powers that be at Stamford Bridge over the summer, which was promptly snubbed by the Italian side.

Both sides are in a good vein of form which they will be keen to carry through to the New Year, however, additions may be required to take their respective title challenges the distance.
