Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Germany Under-21 international Julian Weigl, according to the Mirror on Sunday.

The Premier League giants, who currently sit third in the English top-flight after defeating Norwich City 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, have been monitoring the highly-rated Borussia Dortmund starlet ahead of the forthcoming transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who is yet to earn his first senior international call-up to Joachim Low’s Germany squad, has provided one assist in 49 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Weigl, who began his professional career at 1860 Munich, only arrived at the Westfalenstadion last summer after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal under current manager Thomas Tuchel.

The defensive midfielder has been imperative to Dortmund’s title bid as his side currently trail leaders FC Bayern Munich by five points, plus Weigl featured against Premier League rivals Liverpool during the Reds’ thrilling UEFA Europa League victory over the Germans during the quarter-final stage.
