Arsenal are reportedly edging closer towards striking a deal to sign Spain international striker Alvaro Morata this summer, according to AS (via the Metro).

The Premier League side, who comfortably defeated Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park last weekend to get their title bid back on track, are interested in signing the Juventus forward once the current 2015-16 campaign has concluded.

The 23-year-old, who has six international caps for his country, has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the defending Serie A champions so far this season.

Morata, who arrived at the Italian outfit from Real Madrid back in July 2014 following a reported €20m switch, has become one of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s top transfer targets this summer according to the reports.

However former club Madrid have a buy-back clause, thought to be worth around £23.5m, which the La Liga giants wish to activate so they can potentially offload the hitman to Arsenal later this year for an estimated £39.5m – making a healthy profit of around £16m.
