Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Argentina international striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer, according to Sky Sports [Italy].
The Premier League side, who eventually finished as runners-up in the English top-flight standings last term after pipping rivals Tottenham Hotspur to second spot on the final day, have been continually linked with a move for Napoli’s star striker ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.
The 28-year-old, who has 63 international caps for his country, scored a remarkable 38 goals and provided three assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.
Higuain, who finished as the Italian top-flight’s top goalscorer last term, has been a long-term target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger ever since leaving La Liga giants Real Madrid back in 2013.
The report suggests that Arsenal have lodged no official bid for the Argentine ace, but claim “intermediaries” have been in contact with the forwards’ agent – which is his brother.
It also says that any potential deal to lure Higuain to the Emirates Stadium would break the club’s current transfer record, which stands at the £42.5m they paid for Mesut Ozil back in September 2013.
