Arsenal make approach for Premier League linked 31-goal striker

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been in the market for a striker all summer and, according to reports from HITC, has made contact with Sporting Lisbon over a deal for wantaway striker, Islam Slimani.

The Algeria international, who reportedly handed in a transfer request earlier in the window, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Southampton and Everton both credited with interest this summer.

The 28-year-old, who has been valued at north of £20m, bagged 31 goals over 46 appearances in all competitions for the 18 time Portuguese champions.

The prolific No.9 made the move to Sporting in 2013, and could be the answer to The Gunners’ woes up-front with last season’s top scorer, Olivier Giroud, finishing the campaign ten goals short of Tottenham forward, Harry Kane, in the race for the Golden Boot.

The Gooners have tried an failed to add to the attacking ranks at The Emirates on multiple occasions already this summer, having been snubbed by Jamie Vardy, losing out on Gonzalo Higuain and being seemingly out-priced by Lyon for Alexandre Lacazette.
