Arsenal may need to reintroduce Mesut Ozil in January to rediscover creative edge

Down the years, Arsenal have been famous for having a whole host of brilliant creative midfielders.

The likes of Thomas Rosicky, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla have all wore the famous red shirt in recent times.

However, this season, the Gunners are struggling to pick that killer pass which has resulted in them having their worst start to a top-flight season since 1974/75.

Mikel Arteta’s side have delivered just 13 points from 12 games, scoring just 10 goals to leave them 15th and 10 points off a top-four spot.

Eyebrows were raised at the start of the campaign when Mesut Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad.

Many were shocked to not see Ozil in Arsenal’s Premier League squad.

The German has had a rollercoaster time at the Emirates since signing from Real Madrid in 2013.

However, it was just under two years ago that the now 32-year-old penned a new deal – reported to be worth in the region of £350,000, making him the club’s top-earner.

The 2014 World Cup winner’s work rate has often been questioned, but with 54 Premier League assists to his name – mostly coming under the leadership of Arsene Wenger – surely Arsenal are calling out for a player of his ilk right now?

You really have to question why Ozil’s been left out of the squad altogether because to not even have him as an option is a decision which has caused debate.

Changes can be made to that squad in January and – if reports in Tuttomercato are to be accurate – it’s thought the playmaker will be an option in the new year.

It’s claimed Ozil’s agent says the midfielder will see out the final six months of his contract, despite the club wanting him to move on.

January will already be an interesting one for Arsenal fans but, with their ex-Germany international seemingly determined to stay put, could he be brought back in from the cold..?

If results continue as they are at the moment, it’s surely something the North London club’s management have to consider.
