Arsenal must let go of these two players in January

It’s early days yet but you get the feeling it’s going to be the same old story with Arsenal this season. Arsene Wenger’s side have become masters at finishing in the top four without ever putting in a serious threat for the title during the business end of the season.

Only twice since they last won the Premier League has the gap between them and the champions been in single figures, and twice it’s been more than 20 points.

Still, Arsenal fans are convinced they can and should win the league each year. Recent away defeats to Everton and Man City have caused uproar amongst the fans, even though these were tricky games. But the fans aren’t just reacting to those to games, they know the telltale signs, the inevitability of what happens next: Champions League qualification and no winner’s medal.

But what can the Gunners do to change this? They need to ship out players that are surplus to requirements, and bring in additional quality this January to really push on during the second half of the campaign.

With that said here’s TWO players we here at Shoot! reckon Arsenal should let go this January…

Carl Jenkinson

Carl Jenkinson probably needs to accept the fact that he’s never going to make it at Arsenal proper, even if Hector Bellerin does eventually leave for Barcelona, although that won’t be any time soon as the Spaniard has recently signed a new long-term deal.

Recently Bellerin and Debuchy have both been injured so the Englishman got his chance to impress against Southampton in the EFL cup.

He was beyond poor and suffered a barrage of abuse from Arsenal fans, resulting in Wenger leaving him out of the squad ever since. Gabriel filled in for the remaining matches of Bellerin’s injury, effectively demoting Jenkinson to 4th choice right-back. It’s definitely time for the 24-year-old to move on.

Yaya Sanogo

Has anybody seen Sanogo recently? The Frenchman seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth this season, not having made a single appearance for the Gunners. Wenger commented at the end of November that he had a ‘confidential’ injury and would say no more.

The 23-year-old hardly blew anyone away when he was making appearances either, with a pointless Emirates Cup hat trick the highlight of an unremarkable Arsenal career. It’s clear that his is a squad space that is not being put to good use; he has got to go this January.
