Arsenal must snap up these 2 Bundesliga stars in January

Arsenal are looking to end a 12-year wait for the Premier League title by going one better than their second place finish in the league last season.

Arsene Wenger’s side never really threatened champions Leicester last season, but pipped North London rivals Tottenham to second place on the last day of the campaign.

Optimism was building around the Emirates prior to this year’s campaign, and the Gunners squad have duly delivered a solid start to the season.

Wenger’s men are fourth in the Premier League having won seven of their opening 12 league games, which included an impressive 3-0 win over leaders Chelsea back in September.

They are unbeaten in all competitions dating back to their opening weekend defeat to Liverpool, and are already into the last 16 of the Champions League, having won three and drawn the other of their four games.

However, a below par display against Manchester United last weekend has once again doubted their title credentials, with many believing that they need more reinforcements to sustain a challenge at the top.

Thus, here are TWO Bundesliga stars Wenger should try and snap up in January…

Julian Draxler

Wenger has been a long-term admirer of German international Julian Draxler, and he could be about to strike a deal with Wolfsburg for his services.

The 23-year-old only moved to the Bundesliga outfit from fellow German side Schalke last year, and went on to score nine times in 34 appearances last season.

However, talk of a move in the summer appears to have unsettled Draxler this time around, who has yet to score or provide an assist in the top-flight.

He has been part of a Wolfsburg team that have stuttered to just two wins so far, and it could be best for both parties if Draxler moved on.

Consequently, Wenger must act quicker than Paris Saint-Germain, the other interested party, to bring his man to the Emirates.

Marco Reus

Marco Reus was out of action for six months prior to Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 victory over Legia Warsaw on Tuesday, but immediately hit the ground running with a hat-trick in a thrilling win for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

And, with uncertainty building around the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both of whom have yet to agree new and improved deals at the club, Wenger should be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

The German international shot to prominence when he moved to Dortmund in 2012, and has netted 79 times in 166 games for the German side.

He has been named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season three times in four seasons, and was named the Dortmund Player of the Year for the 2013/14 campaign.

If Reus backs up his impressive first game with further excellent performances in the next few weeks, then many European clubs will be queuing up for his signature.

Yet, Wenger needs to get there first and secure a deal for the German.
