Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday when they face Bournemouth, after the disappointment of defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Gunners slumped to a 1-0 loss against PSG in the first leg of their semi-final at The Emirates, and will now have to overturn that deficit in the French capital if they are to reach the final of Europe’s premier club competition.
Mikel Arteta’s side have also had to deal with the disappointment of missing out on the Premier League title, with Liverpool crowned champions after a 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Spaniard will therefore be desperate to see his side return to winning ways against the Cherries when the two sides meet on Saturday.
In the meantime, it appears that the North London outfit are preparing a new move for one of the Premier League’s most prolific goal scorers.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are ready to reignite their interest in Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
The Gunners lodged a bid of £50 million for the England international during the recent January transfer window, but the offer was rejected by the Villans who were reluctant to lose such a key player.
Watkins, 29, joined Villa from Brentford in 2020 and has since played 219 times for the Midlands club across all competitions, scoring 86 goals and providing 41 assists.
Despite his importance to Unai Emery’s side, the England international has fallen somewhat out of favour at Villa Park in recent weeks, following the arrivals of both Marcus Rashford and Donyell Malen in January.
With Rashford now set to miss the remainder of the season through injury, though, Watkins could return to the starting line-up for Villa’s match against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Watkins is under contract at Villa Park until the end of the 2027/28 season, but the Midlands club could once again have to fend off interest from elsewhere this summer.
