Arsenal are set to see their attempts to sign Northern Ireland international defender Jonny Evans fall short, according to The Sun (via the Mirror).

The Premier League side, who were defeated 4-3 in their 2016/17 league opener inside the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, have been linked with luring the West Bromwich Albion centre-half to London ahead of deadline day (August 31).

The 28-year-old, who has 53 international caps for his country and featured in all four of Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 fixtures earlier this summer, starred in the Baggies’ 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Evans, who sealed a £6m switch to West Brom from top-flight rivals Manchester United back in August 2015, scored one goal and provided two assists in 34 appearances for Tony Pulis’ side last season.

The report suggests that the Baggies are refusing to sell the Northern Irish star, even if Gunners boss Arsene Wenger submits a bid of £16m.
