With the transfer window now officially open, Premier League clubs can begin finalising deals.

Several top flight sides had already agreed moves for players this summer, but they will only be confirmed now after the window officially opened on Monday.

Premier League champions Arsenal are set to be relatively busy during the window, with Mikel Arteta likely to want to make changes to his squad in an effort to maximise their chances of defending their top flight crown.

The Gunners could also allow some players to leave this summer, though, and it has now emerged that one of their biggest stars is attracting interest from his former club.

As per indykaila News, forward Kai Havertz is on the radar of his former side Bayer Leverkusen, although a deal could prove tricky.

The report claims that the Germany international – who scored twice in a 7-1 win over Curacao on Sunday – is a target for his former club, however his huge wages could prove to be a stumbling block.

Havertz, 27, is currently earning around £280m000-per-week, according to the report, and the player would need to accept a significant pay cut if he were to return to Leverkusen.

The striker joined the Gunners from Chelsea in 2023, three years after arriving in England from Leverkusen.

Since joining Arsenal, he has scored 36 goals in 111 games across all competitions, as well as providing 18 assists.

Last term Havertz was hampered by injury and netted just twice in 12 Premier League games as Mikel Arteta’s side won the title.

The report suggests that the German attacker could alternatively agree a mutual termination of his current contract with Arsenal, which is due to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
