Arsenal are keen on signing Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng in January, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta is hoping to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes as he looks to improve on the club’s current 10th-placed standing.

And The Mirror report that the Spanish boss is looking at a possible temporary swoop for the German.

The 31-year-old has started just nine Bundesliga matches for the champions this season and has just 18 months to left on his deal.

Arsenal have found themselves short in the central defensive department due to the ACL injury suffered by Calum Chambers in December.

Chambers has been ruled out for up to nine months.

Having won the 2014 World Cup and 15 honours with Bayern, Boateng would provide the North London side with vast experience at the top level.

The former Hertha Berlin man has also had a taste of the Premier League in the past during a one-season spell with Manchester City.
