Arsenal’s top 3 stars over the international break

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 16 games in all competitions and look like a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have won seven of their opening 11 league games, with a run of six straight wins in September and October underlining their title credentials.

A 1-1 home draw with Tottenham prior to the international break saw Wenger’s side lose a bit of ground on league leaders Liverpool, but they will go into this weekend’s trip to Manchester United knowing that victory could send them to the top of the division.

Arsenal have also looked good in Europe this season, with three wins and a draw from their opening four games already enough to see them through to the last 16, with their match against Paris Saint-Germain next week likely to decide who tops the group.

A run to the League Cup quarter-finals has also given Arsenal fans hope that they could be competitive on several fronts this season, and many of their players have been in action for their national teams this week.

But who has performed the best for their country? Here are THREE Arsenal players who have starred over the last fortnight…

Shkodran Mustafi

Although Shkodran Mustafi didn’t appear in Germany’s 8-0 thrashing of San Marino last week, he was part of a three man defence that kept a clean sheet in Italy on Tuesday.

Mustafi has been in good form for Arsenal since arriving from Valencia in the summer, and he produced another solid defensive showing alongside Benedikt Howedes and Mats Hummels as Germany drew 0-0 in Milan.

It was Mustafi’s 15th cap for his country, and they’ll be plenty more over the next few years should he keep up his current form.

Nacho Monreal

With the array of attacking talent Spain have at their disposal, it was slightly surprising to see Nacho Monreal’s name on the scoresheet in their World Cup qualifier victory over Macedonia on Saturday.

The Gunners full-back scored the third in their 4-0 win, a result which moved them top of Group G with ten points from their opening four matches.

Although he didn’t play against England on Tuesday, Monreal gives head coach Julen Lopetegui another dependable option at full-back.

Alexis Sanchez

Despite the injury scare surrounding Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean played and netted a brace for his country in their 3-1 win over Paraguay on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old missed their draw with Colombia last week due to a thigh injury, but looked back to full fitness by firing home a second half double to keep Chile fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group.

The top four sides will automatically qualify for Russia in two years’ time, so Chile will be hoping that Sanchez can remain fit as they look to reach a third successive World Cup.
