The third round of the EFL Cup gets underway this week as the final crop of Premier League clubs are bought into the mix. Whilst for some managers it is more of a distraction, to others it another chance at glory and an opportunity to see what your whole squad can do.

Two time winners, Arsenal, begin their League Cup campaign with a trip to Championship side, Nottingham Forest off the back of three consecutive Premier League wins and a hard-fought draw at Paris Saint Germain in their opening Champions League game.

Being in the midst of a busy few weeks for his side, it would be expected that Arsene Wenger will make changes on Tuesday night in order to keep his side fresh and offer others in his squad a chance to impress and force their way into his thoughts for games in the Premier League and Champions League.

The Frenchman brought a number of fringe players into the first team training session on Monday morning, whilst key players such as Alexis Sanchez sat out.

With that in mind, here are THREE players that we here at Shoot! reckon should be given their chance at the City Ground.

The England international has seen his playing time dwindle significantly over the last couple of seasons, making just 15 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season, and will be desperate to show manager, Arsene Wenger, that he still has what it takes to be a first team regular.

Since breaking into the first team, Gibbs has made over 200 appearances for the London based club, winning two FA Cups and a Community Shield, but has been ousted from the starting XI by Spaniard, Nacho Monreal.

The young defender made a good impression when he came into Arsenal’s ram-shackled back four at the start of the season, but has lost his place in the side since the arrival of Shkodran Mustafi.

The former Bolton man will be keen to get a start on Tuesday night and show Wenger that he is worthy of another run of games in the Premier League.

Wenger’s summer signing has, to the frustration of ,many Arsenal fans, been left on the bench for the two of the three fixtures since he joined from Deportivo La Coruna at the end of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old will be after as much game time as possible in his first season in English football, in order to mould into his new side’s style and make his mark on the first team.
