Aston Villa are reportedly edging closer to offloading midfielder Charles N’Zogbia in the January transfer window.

The Premier League side, who sit rock-bottom of the standings and already 11 points adrift of safety, are ready to allow the winger to join AEK Athens on loan until the end of the 2015-16 campaign this month.

The 29-year-old, who has earned two international caps for France, has played just 41 minutes of league action this season in two substitute appearances.

N’Zogbia, who cost the Midlands club a whopping £9.5m from Wigan Athletic back in July 2011, is expected to depart Villa Park for the Greek outfit later this month to team up with former Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet in Athens.

The Frenchman, whose Villa contract runs out this summer, is currently one of the club’s highest earners on £65,000-a-week.
