Aston Villa set for “relatively quiet” 2017 summer transfer window

Aston Villa are expected to be “relatively quiet” during the 2017 summer transfer window, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The Championship club, who currently sit 17th in the league standings following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Derby County, will be nowhere as busy as they have been during the previous two transfer windows, according to chief executive Keith Wyness.

The Villans have splashed out almost £80m on 17 players within the last eight months, in the hope of achieving promotion back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Wyness told BBC West Midlands, “We want to get the right squad balance. We did a lot more work in January than we expected to.

“The summer is going to be relatively quiet. There will be ins and outs but nowhere near as many as we have seen in the last two windows.”

Manager Steve Bruce brought in the likes of Scott Hogan, Neil Taylor, Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane, James Bree, Birkir Bjarnason, Jacob Bedeau and Sam Johnstone (loan) during last month’s market, but have since lost seven of their last nine Championship outings.
