Chelsea reportedly failed in an attempt to sign Slovenia international goalkeeper Jan Oblak earlier this month, according to The Sunday Times.

The Premier League side, who defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 away from home on Saturday afternoon in their 2018-19 top-flight opening fixture, were linked with a mega money move for the Atletico Madrid shot stopper, after selling Belgium international Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid in a deal worth up to £35m.

Oblak, 25, who has 18 international caps for his country, kept an impressive 29 clean sheets in 49 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit last season.

The report claims the ‘keeper rejected the chance to sign for The Blues, despite the Premier League side offering to meet the player’s whopping €100m (£89.4m) buy-out clause.

Following that snub, Chelsea went on to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Spanish rivals Athletic Bilbao for a world record £71m fee.

Debutant Arrizabalaga kept a clean sheet on his impressive first start for Maurizio Sarri’s side on Saturday against Huddersfield.
