Team of the Week: Olympiacos

Arsenal succumbed to a second straight Champions League defeat at the hands of an impressive Olympiacos side who recorded their first ever victory in England. Whilst it was a poor performance from Arsene Wenger’s men, nothing should be taken away from the Greek champions who attacked with purpose and showed some great creativity and defensive resilience. Goals from Felipe Pardo, Alfred Finnbogason and an own goal from stand-in keeper David Ospina handed the Greeks their victory and a night to remember.

Player of the Week: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Lewandowski gets our pick for player of the round after another scintillating performance! It was another hat-trick for the Pole which now means he’s bagged 10 goals in just three games. The striker caused Dinamo Zagreb problems all night and could have easily grabbed more than he did. A poacher’s goal, followed by a thunderbolt and before his hat-trick was complete with a skillfully lofted ball over the keeper to show off his talents.

Goal of the Week: Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

This goal was our pick of the week due to the sublime assist rather than the final touch…… sorry Chris! Bastian Schweinsteiger scuffed a volley into the ground but Juan Mata’s wonderful heel flick took the ball over the Wolfsburg defence and found Smalling who finished well to secure United a 2-1 win.
