Rafa Benitez has dropped a strong hint that Pepe Reina is one of his summer transfer targets.
According to a report in the Chronicle the Napoli keeper is in the thoughts of his old Liverpool boss as Newcastle prepare to return to the Premier League.
Reina has one year left on his contract with Napoli who may be prepared to let the 34-year-old leave on a cut price deal since he is on one of their top salaries.
The Spanish keeper spent eight seasons with Liverpool before a surprise move to Napoli which included a strange season long loan at Bayern Munich.
Newcastle have a number of goalkeepers on their books but the prospect of bringing in Reina appeals to Benitez are would send out a statement of intent ahead of the new season.
Reina will be 35 in August and still good for another two or three seasons playing in the top flight of English football.
