Bilic should give these 3 West Ham stars a chance against Everton

West Ham host seventh place Everton on Saturday (3pm kick-off) knowing victory would all but clinch their spot in next season’s Premier League.

Slaven Bilic’s men looked set to be embroiled in a relegation dog-fight when they lost five successive league games from March to April, but a narrow 1-0 win over Swansea followed by a 2-2 draw at Sunderland last time out has moved them nine points clear of the drop with just five games remaining.

And should they get the three points against Ronald Koeman’s Toffees on Saturday, they could move to within a point of safety should third-bottom Swansea lose at home to Stoke.

However, it won’t be easy for the Hammers against the Merseyside outfit this weekend, as Koeman’s men are well-placed to clinch a spot in the Europa League next term.

The Toffees are seventh and 13 points clear of West Brom in eighth, and with sixth place a European spot due to Manchester United’s League Cup victory, and with the FA Cup spot likely to go to a side already qualified for European competition, seventh looks set to be a Europa League spot.

However, Everton may have even loftier ambitions given that they are level on points with sixth place Arsenal and seven behind Manchester City in fourth, although they’ll need a win in East London on Saturday to keep their faint Champions League hopes alive.

With both sides needing the points, it should be an interesting contest at the London Stadium, and Hammers boss Bilic may be forced into some changes given the vast amount of injuries he has in his squad.

Thus, here are THREE West Ham stars who deserve a chance against Everton on Saturday…

Havard Nordtveit

Sam Byram’s late red card at Sunderland on Saturday gives Bilic something to think about with regard to his right-back against Everton this weekend.

And one man he could turn to is Norwegian international Havard Nordtveit, a summer signing from Borussia Monchengladbach who has struggled to force his way into Bilic’s side.

The 26-year-old has managed just eight Premier League starts this term, the latest of which coming in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on January 2, but he did make a substitute appearance against Sunderland on Saturday, and six of his eight league starts have seen him play at right-back.

Thus, he may be in line to replace Byram against Everton on Saturday.

Sofiane Feghouli

Sofiane Feghouli is another who has been in and out of the side over the last few months, and was an unused substitute in the draw at Sunderland last weekend.

The Algeria international made the move to East London last summer following six years at Valencia, and has netted twice and laid on three assists in 19 Premier League appearances this term, albeit only ten have been starts.

And with a goal and two assists in his last five starts for the Hammers, the 27-year-old has clearly made a difference when he’s been in the side and has improved as the season has progressed, which may be enough to see him get the nod on Saturday.

Jonathan Calleri

He has yet to start a Premier League game for West Ham, yet could Saturday finally see Jonathan Calleri’s wait come to an end?

The Argentine has spent the season on loan at the London Stadium from Deportivo Maldonado, but all 12 of his league appearances have come from the bench, and totalled a meagre 251 minutes.

The 23-year-old has netted in that time though, firing home the third in their 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough back in January, but cannot seem to find his way into the starting line-up despite regularly being in and around the squad.

Nonetheless, should Bilic want to changes things up against the Toffees, Calleri may get that elusive Premier League start this weekend.
